I often hear Christians talk about engaging culture by taking popular cultural mediums and creating Christian versions. So we have Christian social networks, Christian versions of YouTube, Christian movies, and Christian rock.

While those are all great for Christians, they fall far short of actually engaging the culture.

The best example of engaging culture I've ever seen is in Acts 17 where Paul actually engages the citizens of Athens on their turf, using their culture. When Paul sees that the Athenians are religious people, rather than create a "Christian Idol", he engages them by discussing where God is already at work within their culture.

Rather than thinking that our job as Christians is to bring God to the culture...True engagement enters into the culture and connects with where God is already at work.

Where do you see God at work around you, and how will you join him?
