Last Friday we took our youngest two girls to the St. Louis Zoo for a day trip (Helena was in Georgia with friends on Spring Break).

If you're looking for a great inexpensive day trip this is the place to go!

The zoo is FREE...that's right ya'll...FREE!

There are also a ton of other free things to do in the area like Forest Park, and the Science and Art Museums.

A couple of suggestions if you're going to be making a trip to the St. Louis Zoo.

1. Drop the family off at the zoo and park the car...it's a long walk, you'll be the hero of the day, and save the kids legs for walking in the zoo.

2. Spend the $5 a person and get the train pass. Our girls loved the ride. I got some great video footage while riding the train. Best of all it breaks up the day, and helps keep the kids going. A great way to get around the zoo.

3. If you're really looking to save some money and do this on the cheap...pack a lunch and eat in one of the great picnic areas in Forest Park.

4. Finally, if you're willing to spend a little more money, let the kids get their faces painted...our girls absolutely loved this, and it was well worth the $7 we spent.

After spending the day at the zoo we went down to The Delmar Loop, just a few blocks away. The Delmar Loop is an entertainment, and restaurant district with an eclectic selection of restaurants, arts, and entertainment. We picked up some Cold Stone (my favorite is the chocolate ice cream with brownie), walked the St. Louis Walk of Fame (pretty cool by the way, our girls loved it), and finished the night off with a little Chipotle (yes we had dessert before dinner...don't judge me).
