Decided to switch it up and post my reflections on Sunday night this week, so here goes.
  • It was good to be back at BridgeWay after taking a Sunday off to spend Christmas with our family in Michigan.
  • After getting slammed with terrible weather last week, it was also nice to have good weather for the start of the new year.  Good weather from December to March is a pretty big deal around here.
  • We kicked off our Q & A series with a Sunday worship experience that we called "Encore" as we revisited the favorite songs from our past year of ministry...a few weeks ago we surveyed the congregation and they picked their top 5 songs from the past year, and their #1 question for the message.  Today the worship set was made up the top 5 songs that were picked, but we stretched the teaching out for another 2 weeks of Q & A because we had so many great questions.
  • The worship set today was: I Am Free, God of the City, Revelation Song, and Never Let Go.  The congregation was singing really loud at both worship experiences...it was really great!
  • We closed with "My Hero" by the Foo Fighters with a video from The Passion of the Christ in the background...we used it earlier this year, and it was powerful.
  • I taught on 4 questions today: Can a Christian read their horoscope, How can I know I'm hearing from God, How can I let go of past hurts, and Do Christians have to forgive people who have deeply hurt them.
  • Lots of people asked about how to get over past hurts.  I addressed this in a series called Hostage earlier this year.   It's still up on the website so give it a listen.
  • The question on forgiveness was the most asked question by far.  We had over 20 people ask a question that somehow related to forgiveness!
  • Here's the truth about forgiveness.  We forgive by faith, out of obedience to Christ, believing that Christ will complete the work of forgiveness in our hearts.
  • Two key passages that inform this understanding are: Colossians 3:13 & Philippians 1:6.
  • Great to see so many unfamiliar faces in worship today...I must have met at least 4 new families today.
  • We saw around 385 people in worship today...great start to a new year...be sure to invite someone with you next week for the second week of Q & A...we'll be addressing: divorce, how do we know right from wrong, and several questions on sexuality.
  • Please note our adult worship experience is rated PG next week...so parents...please use our Treasure Quest ministry for your children under 6th grade...thanks!
  • Have a great week church!
